Dr. George Shirley, PT, DPT, MS, ATC, ASTYM and TPI Certified

Dr. George Shirley graduated with a master’s degree in athletic training and a doctoral degree in physical therapy from Shenandoah University in 2005. He founded Fast Track Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine in 2009 after being discouraged by the way that Physical Therapy was being administered around the Salt Lake valley. In the Winter of 2018, Fast Track was rebranded to become: FYZICAL Therapy and Balance Centers (Midvale) and remains fully owned and operated by George and his wife, Maria.

George has worked in various clinics across the country, as well as with an array of competitive athletes. He has served as an Athletic Trainer for several different professional teams including REAL Salt Lake (MLS), and The Mighty Ducks Ice Hockey organization. He has also worked with a number of high schools and colleges.

George is passionate about soccer, and is currently the head men’s high school boys soccer coach at The Waterford School in Sandy, UT. Since becoming the head coach in 2012-13, the Waterford Raven’s have earned an impressive record, including 3 Utah State Championships and 1 other State Championship appearance that ended with the Raven’s losing in penalty kicks.

From Acute Care Facilities and Home Health, to high-level outpatient orthopedic clinics focusing on return-to-play for professional athletes, George has treated patients in nearly every scope of health care. As a result of his background in manual therapy, George whole-heartedly believes that each of his patients should receive a personal, hands-on experience. He is also certified in ASTYM (augmented soft tissue mobilization), which is a technique specifically utilized for overuse injuries and has great success treating those types of injuries (tendinosis, plantar fasciitis, tennis/golfer’s elbow, etc) with this technique. He is also TPI certified – TPI stands for the Titleist Performance Institute. Being TPI certified, George believes that each person has a golf swing that is uniquely most efficient for him/her. By screening and assessing the client’s biomechanics, quality of movement, general level of fitness as well as any pertinent medical history – he will help you achieve that uniquely efficient swing.  Most recently, George has developed a passion for helping those with Vestibular injuries and helping to retrain the Balance System through its 3 major components.

George comes from an athletic background, having played soccer at the college level in Virginia, and still loves to experience life through sports. Some of his interests include, skiing and snowboarding in the “greatest snow on earth,” golfing, triathlons, and generally enjoying the great outdoors. Having grown up in east Tennessee, at the base of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, there is nowhere he would rather be than outside enjoying nature with his incredible family.
